Australian-based boutique, Up There, surprised the world with the sequel to their recently released “Natsukashii” Asics Gel-Kayano 12.1. Montreal-based design studio, JJJJound, dropped their second collection of Asics Gel-Kayano 14s last week, with a “Baby Blue” and “Midnight Navy” colourway each selling out quick. Kith and Asics dropped a 6 pair summer collection, which included my favourite of the pack – the Gel-Kayano 12.1 in “Peet / Cream”. As part of Kith’s Winter ’24 line, they dropped a couple of Asics collaborations, including the Gel-Kayano 12.1 that I’m reviewing today. This pair features cream mesh, with translucent TPU layers in a pale mint tone. The upper of this shoe is also paired with the tooling of the Gel-Nimbus 17, resulting in a mashup that is refreshingly new but still works. Ronnie Fieg just dropped his newest Kith and Asics collab – two pairs of the Gel-Kayano 12.1. This mashup sneaker mixes the upper of the Gel-Kayano 12 with the tooling of the Gel-Nimbus 17, one pair in Cream and Pure Aqua, and the other as a nod to the New York Knicks. To celebrate the Kayano-line’s 30th anniversary, Asics released this mashup model, the Gel-Kayano Legacy, consisting of elements from 8 past Kayano silhouettes. Asics recently released this fresh general release colourway of their popular Gel-Kayano 14 model. Named “Simply Taupe / Oatmeal”, it has a more premium feel with a tonal mesh and suede upper, in various shades of cream and beige.
