Dropping a few weeks back to celebrate the NBA All-Star Game was the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Sail”. This special edition release replaces the snake scales on the lateral side with showtime stars, paying homage to basketball fans’ favourite February event. 2025 is the Year of the Snake, and Nike is honouring the lunar calendar and its ties to Kobe Bryant, naming this year the Year of the Mamba. As part of this collection, they dropped this China-exclusive colourway of the Kobe 5 Protro, which is dressed in festive colours of red and gold. Nike Basketball brought back this classic from 2011 – the Nike Kobe 6 “Italian Camo”. Built close to the original but tweaked in “protro” form, these feature a camo printed mesh upper, crimson accents, a full length Cushlon midsole, and Zoom Turbo under the forefoot. The beloved “Venice Beach” Kobe 8 made its return over a decade later, as it released in Protro form earlier this month. Staying relatively true to the original despite being marketed as a Protro, these feature a vibrant mesh upper, a drop in React foam midsole and an icy rubber outsole as well. Following the protro release of the original “Grinch” Nike Kobe 6 in 2021, Nike Basketball followed it up with a “Reverse Grinch” colourway that released last week. Swapping the original colours, the signature green upper is now red, while red accents and laces are now a vibrant electric green shade. Adidas Originals recently released this new model, the Crazy IIInfinity, paying tribute to their Kobe or Crazy line from the early 2000s.
