Happy Air Max Day! A couple weeks ago, Nike dropped another incredible women’s Air Max 1 – nicknamed “Great Indoors”. This unique and over the top design features a mix of textiles and patterns, including a jacquard fabric, tiger stripe suede, and cow printed mudguards. Taking us back to 1986, Nike is set to launch this Air Max 1 that pays homage to the originals which featured a larger Air bubble, chunkier midsole, and a different looking upper. Back in the 80s, the original pairs were recalled and redesigned / relaunched with the smaller Air unit that we know today, but this retro is a nod to one of the best little known stories surrounding the iconic Air Max lineage ever told.

Korean-based brand, Kasina, collaborated with Nike last month to release two colourways of the Air Max 1. Inspired by Won-Ang, this is the cultural tradition of gifting wood carved ducks to the couple on their wedding. Nike celebrated Air Max Day, 3.26, by dropping three regional exclusive Air Max 1s. The Asia and Latin America pair was the women’s “Wabi-Sabi” colourway which I’m reviewing today. Based on the philosophy of seeing beauty in imperfection, this pair is done in mismatching fashion, with a canvas and leather construction, contrast stitching, and an overall raw and natural aesthetic. Concepts completed their three-shoe “Message to the Universe” Nike Air Max 1 pack by dropping the final “Far Our” colourway on Air Max Day, 3.26. Definitely the most colourful and vibrant of the three, it features textiles and patterns worn by music festival goers in the 1960s, and came with a special box and extras! Nike released the “Air Max Running Club” pack, which is a series of Air Max shoes that are given a retro, 70s flair, inspired by the actual running club, Athletics West, founded by Nike’s co-founders. The pair I’m reviewing today is one of the Air Max 95s from the pack, so leave a comment to let me know what you think about these and if you can see yourself rocking them!

Clot and Nike recently released an Air Max 1 inspired by their 2006 collaboration, the “Solar Red” Kiss of Death Air Max 1! These differ from the originals by incorporating a mesh toe box, thin leather liners on the upper, and gold embroidery on the heel with Clot branding. With the originals being one of the most exclusive Air Max 1 releases ever, this year’s re-release was a welcome addition to many Air Max collectors out there!
